Containers are becoming more and more popular with 31% of enterprises experimenting how to build, ship and distribute applications faster. With more new developments going into production with Docker Containers and with the inclusion of multi-tiered applications in those architectures, there is an imminent need to align the agility provided by Docker with enterprise storage management capabilities.

The Software Defined Solution provided by Veritas Infoscale Storage provides the agility needed by virtualizing the storage across the entire cluster using Direct Attach Storage.

Veritas Infoscale Storage/Enterprise provides the following capabilities for Docker on RHEL 7:

Persistent Storage Management:

For those state-full containers where persistent data is needed, Veritas Infoscale makes the volumes persistent and accessible across any server within the cluster. Schedulers like kubernetes can now run the containers on any node knowing that the persistent storage will be always available.

Scale-out Solution:

Cost reduction is a key element and drives solution optimization. Veritas Infoscale Storage/Enterprise/Access allows the usage of server-side storage, adding more compute or storage as needed. By using commodity servers with local storage, the acquisition costs can be reduced, and the scale-out solution provides the much needed agility to reduce the operational expenses.

Run any Database & Multi-tenant Application:

Veritas solutions are well known in the enterprise Storage and Availability markets. Having the confidence on the resiliency of the Enterprise class storage solution now allows the implementation of mission critical Database or Multi-tenant Applications with Docker.

Snapshots & I/O Acceleration:

Any volume provided to the containers can be snapshotted at any time and those copies can be used by any other container running in any other node within the cluster. This provides great flexibility from the storage side that perfectly complements Docker value proposition.

Not all the containers may need the same amount of I/O and not all of them may reside on the same kind of storage. Veritas Infoscale can dynamically allocate and move storage across different storage types or even cache “specific container’s data” on SSDs which brings the data closer to the CPU thereby achieving maximum performance.

Disaster Recovery:

Data can be replicated to DR sites using traditional networks at the application level as well as at the container persistent data volume level. We help to make sure there is no data loss upon a site failure.

Ecosystem Support:

Veritas InfoScale Storage Plugin for Docker Version 1.0 Trialware in Technology preview mode enables quick and easy Storage provisioning of Veritas InfoScale by seamless integration into the Docker CLI Ecosystem. Integration with Container Management Solution such as Kubernetes and other Ecosystem Partners will be selectively introduced in subsequent releases.

What is the Pre-Requisite and How to manage?:

Install  Veritas InfoScale Storage/Enterprise 7.0 Trialware on each node of the RHEL 7 cluster. A pool of storage can be created where Docker can instantiate the persistent volumes needed.

Veritas InfoScale Operations Manager can be used to manage this configuration.
