Yes, that’s right everyone.  Again! And I’m as excited today to announce our leadership position as we were back on Day 1.

NetBackup has been a leader in every Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Software1 published since 1999. That includes all 14 MQ reports published!  If you’d like a copy, download here.

Wow, how time flies when you are having fun. I’ve been with Veritas for 15 years, when a new class of computing known as client/server was just taking on mission-critical workloads. We continue to drive technology innovation and consistently serve customers through their infrastructure evolutions. I look back at how we’ve gained the trust of global enterprises worldwide propelling NetBackup to the #1 market share leader2 position.

But we’re not resting on our laurels. We knew from the beginning that IT architecture and data centers would continue to evolve at a rapid pace.  And that organizations worldwide would face increasing challenges in ensuring access and availability to their data when they needed it, where they needed it.  That’s why we architected NetBackup as a platform to both protect and perform at scale for the long haul.  That’s not always the case for others, and why we believe we have the only forward thinking backup solution.

Helping you in an increasingly complex IT environment.  Check boxes, promises, and the truth. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve talked with a customer that went with a point product based on check boxes and promises, and after only 6 months of ‘in production’ experience, plus lots of expensive professional services, they threw in the towel and turned to us for help.

The truth is, if you can’t scale out of the gates, the checkboxes and promises don’t mean a thing.  And, finding out the hard way through missed SLAs, rising storage costs, the inability to effectively protect all the workloads in the enterprise, coupled with the risk from a growing number of backup failures because you can’t scale, I can tell you... it gets expensive.

NetBackup is our answer to simplicity and performance at scale. No other vendor has an enterprise data protection solution as tightly integrated as NetBackup and the NetBackup Appliance family.  This level of integration provides a flexible, fast software/hardware deployment model that scales with performance, integrated deduplication that reduces the cost of protecting petabytes of data, and is ideally suited for the modern software defined data center.  And let’s not forget, NetBackup Appliances are the fastest growing integrated backup appliance on the market today.

Here’s a few key areas we believe any organization should focus on when looking for modern data protection solutions:

Unified protection across virtual, cloud and physical.  When we look at backup and recovery we look at it holistically. How can we develop and innovate NetBackup to provide the scalability, performance, and reliability to protect large, complex heterogeneous environments, while backing up and recovering from disk, tape, dedupe, cloud no matter where it resides?  When developing your data protection strategy, I recommend you think about your future growth needs and look for a converged backup infrastructure platform

Managing multi-hypervisor virtualization:  We know what it takes to protect 10,000s to 100,000s of VMs and petabytes of data across many complex geographically dispersed locations.  And with NetBackup you get the brains with the brawn.  NetBackup Intelligent Policies, granular recovery, agentless backup and use of familiar VM consoles are just a few of the best in class capabilities we provide for virtualized workloads.

Paving the path to the hybrid cloud.  90% of our enterprise customers tell us they are moving to the hybrid cloud and are looking to NetBackup to help pave the way. NetBackup integrated cloud connectors simplify and manage the move to the hybrid cloud with single-click configuration.  In addition, we easily converge on-and off-premise data protection with scalable, cloud-ready solutions that cover backup to the cloud as well as protecting workloads in the cloud.

The way Oracle DBAs like it.  I don’t think we’d find too many DBAs that wouldn’t confess to being control freaks, but with good reason.  If one of their mission-critical databases goes down it’s their job on the line. NetBackup Copilot for Oracle revolutionizes the protection and management of Oracle Database data allowing DBAs to independently manage backups on their own schedules, maintain visibility across all storage tiers, and recover from any available copy while allowing backup admins full visibility through NetBackup.

Self-service means getting backup your way.  “Backup-as-a-Service” is a common theme among many enterprise customers, MSPs, and GSIs looking to reduce risk, cost, and complexity and the opportunity to bring new service offerings to market.  NetBackup provides many self-service options that leverage its sheer power, scale, and diverse workload support and lets VMware, Hyper-V, and Oracle administrators and MSPs manage data protection through familiar consoles.

Visibility and what to do with all that data.  For those customers that use NetBackup to protect their enterprise, we have an exciting new capability called InfoMap that delivers a global view of all their data and the ability to drill into each location to better understand its value and relevance to their organization.   This powerful new insight leverages the NetBackup enterprise-class catalog and index capabilities.

Yes, we are absolutely thrilled to be named as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Software, again!  I’m pretty sure I can speak for both our customers and the Veritas team, we will never tire of making sure we continue to provide the most exciting and innovative solutions that solve the information management challenges our customers face.
