All I want to do is buy a licence (PART THREE!)
Well, here we are again, 10 months after posting my second message on this subject and I am STILL no nearer to being able to buy a licence!!! My current licence will expire in September. I sent two emails to Ben Spickard very recently and they have both been ignored. Is he still there? I'd just like to know if any progress has been made to enable individual users to buy online. Last year I was told that Veritas was working on it but I have heard nothing for the last ten months. If it's not going to happen then please let us know and I will look elsewhere for a backup solution.Gonad3 days agoLevel 490Views0likes1Commentlicence buying
I have not been able to buy a standard licence for System Recovery. I have called support twice which both ended in a similar way. A case was opened and then closed as I was left with the task to find a licence seller. I was supplied with some info, but I could not buy from any one from the list. I'm asking for this because I have been using the Symantec System recovery 2013 and do want to upgrade. I began using the program because I was a part of a testing group. As Symantec was split up and part of it merged with Veritas. In May 2016 I was invited to continue in a new testing group as part of Veritas, testing the upcoming SP 6 of SSR 2013 but had to decline the invitation. I have the Veritas System Recovery 23 Trialvare on my machine now (day 18). How can I by the licence for that product quick and easy?fiasko10 days agoLevel 3167Views0likes5CommentsASR 24 poor backup performance (Win11 24H2)
I have been using System Recovery for many years, starting with Symantec System Recovery, migrating to Veritas System Recovery, and now I have moved to Arctera System Recovery 24 for my new Windows 11 machine. I am currently experiencing a frustrating issue with all backups in Arctera System Recovery 24. Whenever I start a drive backup task, everything starts out normal. It builds the snapshop and starts copying files as expected. But inevitably, after the backup task has been running for about 15-20 minutes, the performance completely drops off. I can see the disk activity in Task Manager for the target drive and it goes from a consistent write speed for the first 15-20 minutes, to an extremely inconsistent write speed that spikes up and down. Task Manager shows low CPU usage, low memory usage, and low disk usage, so there should be plenty of resources available. I have tried backups both with and without compression, and the same issue occurs regardless. Backup tasks that should complete in 5-6 hours would require something closer to 36-48 hours to complete, and this performance makes it impossible for me to backup my drives. This performance is not unique to a single drive. I have experienced the same result with backups of 3 different high-speed NVMe drives, using 2 different USB target drives. And those same USB drives were used in Veritas System Recovery on Windows 10 with no issues whatsoever. I can also do a full copy of drive contents in Windows from the source drive to the target USB drive without any slowdown. A copy/paste of full drive contents (~ 3TB) finished in under 6 hours. A drive backup of that same drive would take about 2 days. I am leaning toward this being a software issue, as there are no indications of any hardware problems. Crystal DiskMark benchmarks of all drives appear to be completely normal. I am currently working with Arctera support and they have been very responsive, but we haven't found any answers yet. I just wanted to check here and see whether anyone has experienced this type of issue, with ASR 24 or any other version. If so, were you able to figure out what the problem was and how did you solve it? Hopefully someone can provide guidance. Thank you!CubsWin21 days agoLevel 233Views0likes2CommentsSystem Tray Icon not responding
I recently built a new PC with a fresh Windows 11 install and installed ASR 24. I was able to apply my license and the application is generally working as expected, except for the system tray icon. Usually when I click the icon in the system tray, nothing happens at all. If I click it several times, one of the clicks will eventually register. Note that none of the other applications running in my system tray have this issue. Has anyone else seen this issue?CubsWin25 days agoLevel 248Views0likes3Comments- gardis2 months agoLevel 422Views0likes1Comment
System Recovery 24.0
I downloaded the new release of SR 24.0. On the Zip file. I checked the unblock box, saved it, and then unzipped the file. I ran browser.exe on a WIN 10 machine running SR 23.3. The progress window briefly popped up but then disappeared. I uninstalled 23.3 and tried the install of 24.0 again. Sames result. I then tried running 24.0 on another computer running Windows 11 and SR 23.2. Sames result. install started then disappeared, Do we have a possible bug? I have not contacted support yet. Thanks.CQ2 months agoLevel 5340Views2likes18CommentsHow to Remove PDF Password Protection?
There are different ways of removing passwords from PDF files, based on the type of password protection. Here's how the PDF password removers work and the steps involved. Understanding PDF Password Protection: Document Open Password: This password limits access to the PDF file opening operation only.Permissions Password: This password limits only certain operations with the PDF, e.g., printing, editing, etc. Document Open Password: This password restricts access to opening the PDF file itself. Permissions Password: This password restricts specific actions within the PDF, such as printing, editing, or copying content. Methods for Removing PDF Passwords: Using Adobe Acrobat: If you have the necessary permissions or know the password, Adobe Acrobat provides a straightforward method. Steps: Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat. Go to "Tools" > "Protect" > "Encrypt" > "Remove Security." If it's a "Document Open" password, click "OK." If it's a "Permissions Password," enter the password and click "OK." PDF Password Remover, the dedicated software application, is available to remove PDF passwords. These programs offer more advanced features and handle more complex password encryption. It is very important to use software from trusted sources. Download it from here. Add the PDF file to the software. Enter the password and press the Next button. Choose the desired options and destination location. Press the Unlock button to start. There you go; now you will get a PDF file without any password protection. I previously posted here about the difficulties of buying a licence in the UK, especially for individual users. https://vox.veritas.com/t5/System-Recovery/All-I-want-to-do-is-buy-a-licence/td-p/903155 I've was told back in January that Veritas is working on a solution and I was sent a temporary slf licence file until things can be sorted out and I can actually buy one. Well VSR 23 is now warning me that my licence will expire in 57 days from now and I'm STILL waiting for an answer from Veritas. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP AND TELL ME THE SITUATION. WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO BUY A LICENCE? ThanksSolvedGonad2 months agoLevel 4249Views0likes3CommentsSO confused
Trying to update old SSR seems impossible. Or even finding someone to ask about it! All I can tell you is that 2016 Veritas/Symantec SSR v 16.0.2.56166 still runs on home systems and still more reliable than much newer apps. The software still comes up on home systems as the absolute best protection for our home networked Win & iOs devices. So did SSR for home users just go away? or can one pay to keep it current, albeit for home network? I'm not technical, but am just so impressed at how that software stands up after what, 4 OS upgrades of OS since Win7? And everytime there's a crash we end up finding the decades old SSR backups still run flawlessly. I don't know the economies, but seems like you're missing so much business. Nobody seems to want to even venture a price to keep the software current for home pcs. Do home users just dump the old SSR or do you offer any version suitable for home networks? Thanks.TNav3 months agoLevel 139Views0likes1CommentSystem Recovery Future
With VSR now Arctera System Recovery, will the product still be sold and with continued development? I was on the Arctera Website and I did not see System Recovery mentioned as a product. I only saw Backup Exec. Also, will Win 11 24H2 be supported in the future? I only see 23H2 on the comparability list for VSR 23.3. Thank you!CQ3 months agoLevel 539Views1like1Comment
