Maximizing Backup Efficiency for Computer Desktops and Virtual Environments
Hi everyone, I’ve been working on improving the performance of our backup processes and wanted to discuss some challenges and successes we've had with backing up both computer desktops and virtual environments using Veritas NetBackup. Our setup consists of a mix of physical desktop systems and virtual machines, and we've noticed a significant difference in backup times between the two. For our computer desktops, we have focused on prioritizing critical files through tailored backup policies, which have drastically improved performance. On the other hand, virtual environments presented more challenges with resource-heavy backups. After optimizing VMware integration and leveraging deduplication, we have seen substantial improvements in both speed and storage efficiency. Has anyone else had similar experiences with improving backup efficiency in mixed environments? I’d love to hear if you’ve used any techniques that optimize the backup process for computer desktops versus virtual machines. We’ve also been trying to streamline backup schedules across both environments while minimizing impact on daily operations. Sorting Computers by date properly
We're using DLO 9.4, and I need to be able to sort computers (under Setup > Settings > DLO > Computers) by the last time the agent was active and the last time there was a successful backup. However, instead of sorting like so: 1/3/2023 10:13:30 AM 5/25/2023 9:35:19 AM 11/10/2023 7:45:15 AM ...it sorts like this: 1/3/2023 10:13:30 AM 11/10/2023 7:45:15 AM 5/25/2023 9:35:19 AM It's like it's treating each field in these columns as text and not as dates. So, whenever I sort, they are out of time order. Is there some way to fix this? It would make it a heck of a lot easier to see whenever DLO has somehow failed to not back up users/computers so I can go troubleshoot. I have one user out of 80 who cannot get DLO to back up their .PST file. The error is this: The pst file C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst was skipped because it is not configured in Outlook. This is, of course, not true. It is very much configured. Otherwise the user wouldn't be able to use Outlook or access their .pst file. Originally, Office 2019 was installed and gave us this error. I removed 2019 and installed 2016. Same error. I tried it with a different .pst file (i.e. "outlook1.pst" instead of the default "outlook.pst"). Same error. Nobody else has this problem. Can someone help us out, please? Thanks!
C partition full on User's desktop/laptop
Hello, Please help with this query, we have configured the DUDF (desktop user data folder) on the D:\ partition (D:\DUDF) but for some reason the C:\ drive is filling up when it loses communication with the NUDF. ...I cannot *make* the service user account a sysadmin (using SMSS for SQL 2014 Express). None of the default user accounts enabled in SQL have "sysadmin" rights, nor can I give any accounts the rights as I don't have the permission. I'm running everything (DLO, SMSS, etc) as a *Windows* administrator, but that seems to make no difference. What can I do? Thanks!
Install DLO through Windows GPO (9.8)
Hi Community. I am surprised that the guide does not have the steps on how to install the DLO agent through the GPO, at least I haven't found it on the guide or any clear link. So, can some one point me to the right direction on how to push the DLO (9.8 is my version) through GPO please? Thx!
