Autoloader is appearing twice under Devices.

Hi,

I understand that by default new devices will be group under the default pool (All Devices), am I right on this?

New installed autoloader is listed under All Devices, but at the same time it also appeared as a separate group by itself - PowerVault 124T (refer to screenshot).

Is this the default/normal behavior of BE? So now it has 2 groups of pool?

So if i were to add in another backup device now, it will aagain put under All Devices, at the same time appeared as individual group as well?

    As I said, your second instance is probably caused by you defining a partition for the entire library.  This is not necessary.  Just go to the Device tab, remove this partition and the second instance will be gone.  Otherwise, just leave it.  As you said, you have no problems with your backups.

    Not in fromt of my BE server currently (and won't be till Monday) but I think seeing the view like that is expected.

    Hi,

     

    It should have ALl Devices only with your library showing.

    Is this server part of a CASO, or was it ever part of a CASO? If so, there could be some sort of legacy entry in the registry or BEDB somewhere. I'd then suggest you open a query with Symantec to get it removed.

    Alternatively, uninstall the device from within BE and restart the server. Once done, run the DDI installation within BE to install the Symantec drivers for the device, make sure your robotics show up as Unknown Medium CHanger in Windows Device Manager, and check to see if the entry for the autoloader shows up twice.

    The first occurence of the library is normally how the library would appear.  The second occurence, the one with [001..0016] is how a library partition would be shown.  I think you have defined a partition for all the slots in your library.  You should remove the partition if it is for all the slots.  If you did not define any partitions, then go to the BE installation directory and run tapeinst.exe.  Uninstall all occurences of the library and then install the library again.  After that, restart the BE services.

    Hi,

    Currently there is no issue with running backup/restore.

    But I am just afraid that removing the second occurence or reinstall everything might caused problem later.

    So based on the feedback, I assumed second occurence is not common? And suggested to be removed?

    Uninstalling the device shouldn't cause issues, as long as you do the following:

    1. Remember your slot partitions.

    2. Run the Symantec drivers for the tape drive (confirm this by running the Device Configuration Wizard within BE and then check the Drivers tab of the drive in Device Manager).

    3. Confirm that your jobs point to the correct partitions (if using partitions).

    You are right. I wasn't aware that the first liner ("---- PowerVault 124T ----") under the partition configuration IS a partition by itself.
