backup- \\servername\E media mount failed

Click on Alerts->Active ALerts/Alerts Histroy and Post Error what you are receiving, Also The error occurs because no appendable media is available for use in the targeted media set.  

Its Probably falling because of Appendable media not available, Blank media and Scratch media are not considered appendable media. A media must already contain at least one backup set to be considered appendable.

Also Post Media Set property associated with Backup, Like OPP and APP.

This could happen if you job spans to multiple tapes and it requires the 2nd tape to be an overwritable tape sometimes its able to find it and sometimes its not and that results in job failure

In you senario, if you are backing up to 1 tape every day and i hope you are repeating this process every week

Assuming 1 day worth of backup fits in 1 tape

My sugguestion to you will be

Create a media set name it "Daily" 

Keep the overwrite protection period of :6 days and keep the append period of 0 days

Set the job properties to overwrite instead of append else overwrite 

Move all the tape to the scratch media before the job begins and start the job 

 

This will overwrite the tape, protect them for 6 days and overwrite again. 

hi Sids: here's the error message: The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time. When viewing the job log: Backup- \\Server\E: Media mount failed. User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation. V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user. While there wasn't anyone at the office... The job has about 10 hours to run and that's more then sufficient, and in this case the job byte count is approx 100 GB of 400 GB in total. I've put some attachements in about media set and job report, (in media set picture there are more tapes but aren't to my disposal, i only have 5) Kenny: We have about 360 GB of data and the tapes are 400 GB, So 1 tape should do, i know it's al little tight but the backup job already fails after 100 GB... Of course i repeat the back up every day (a new tape) and the next week they get overwritten. So i have monday, thuesday, wednsday and so on. The job is set to: append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available. And keep in mind that the job does run successfull sometimes... Is your E:\ drive a physical volume or a CD/DVD-ROM? If it is a CD/DVD-ROM, go into your selection list and into the text view, and manually delete that entry. This would fix it.

Hello Craig No it's a pysical volume...

...OK...in your selection list, deselect, and then reselect your E:\ drive and see if this makes a difference.

Matter of interest, what does it have on it? Application data/user data etc?

Oke i'll try deselecting the E drive. And E drive has user specific data and also containes application files for our programs. Maybe files are opened (locked) and backup job can't process this or something? It appears to be random because sometimes the job continious with drive E without a problem... And of course i can't leave drive E out of the selection :-) Thanks

anyone? I'm new to backup exec but isn't there any extra log i can view, maybe find what files the backup is processing when the media mount failed is received??
