Backup Data Faster Than Verifying Data?

My question is after looking at a few jobs it appears that I have a higher throughput rate for the actual data backup than the verify step which I thought would be the opposite?  Any reason why the verify throughput rate would be less and is this typical?  Is the verify step more resource intensive?  Thanks

    I think it is rare for verify to be slower than backup.  Is your data highly compressable?

    What is your environment?  What speeds for backup and verify are you seeing?
