Backup Exec 11D Remote Agent for Windows

Hi All,

Our company installed a new File Server with Win 2008 R2 X64.  We have to backup the file serve. We had a backup server which installed Backup Exec 11D Rev 6235 (OS win 2003). The server is working fine. But now we can not install RAWS for in the Win 2008 Server. Do I need to upgrade Backup Exec?

  • BE12 supports Win 2008

    BE12.5 and above supports Win 2008 R2

    Refer to BE11d SCL  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH50180

If you have a valid support contract then upgrade to the latest version of BE.

  • Thank you Amolzerocool, I have one more question, Can I only install last RAWS in New server(win 2008 R2) and use the old server(11D) for backup? Thank you.

  • Nope you have to use the same version (or one version newer) media server as the remote agent, you cannot have a remote agent on a newer version thne the media server as this would be "forwards compatibility" and is not supported.

  • ...and in this case it's probably best to upgrade to at least BE 2010 R3 with SP2. It's the same type of interface as 11d, supports newer hardware and software, and not as big a change compared to installing BE 2012.

If you have a support agreement in place, you're able to upgrade for free and get the licenses from Symantec licensing.
