Problem
How to migrate Backup Exec to another server with a different Windows OS version.
Solution
NOTE: Backup Exec (BE) is only supported to migrate or move BE to and from the same Windows OS version.
The following steps are successful in most cases. However this is a best effort method as the Windows OS change is not supported.
1. Install BE as a clean install on your New server.
2. Make sure BE is working normal as a clean install on the New server.
3. On the Old server, stop the BE services and the SQL BKUPEXEC service.
4. Copy the Catalogs and Data folder from the Old server to the desktop of the New server.
Path \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\
5. On the New server, stop the BE services.
6. Rename the Catalogs folder to Catalogs.old.
7. Copy the desktop catalogs to the Backup Exec folder.
8. In the Desktop data folder, copy all BEX files to the Backup Exec\data folder (only BEX files)
9. In the Backup Exec folder, run BEUtility.exe.
10 Click yes to open the utility.
11. In the middle column, select All Media servers.
12, In the right column, right click the New server and select Copy Database.
13, In both prompts, browse to the Desktop\data folder and select the BEDB data base files.
14. Click ok to import and restart the BE services.
Thanks
