Backup Exec 2010 R3 Sp1 - Backup Exchange 2007 and Restore Exchange 2010

Hello.

I have a client that made a backup with Backup Exec 2010 R3 sp1 on an Exchange 2007 Database. But now they upgraded theyre Exchange to 2010 and I know that i can´t restore between versions.

I can make a redirect to a .pst with Backup Exec 2012, but what about the Backup exec 2010 ? what can i do to restore that message ? It can be a 2 Step restore, but there´s no way to have a Exchange 2007 to help.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

No way to restore from a previous version of Exchange into Exchange 2010. This is a Microsoft limitation.

You can look at duplicating your backup to disk with BE 2010, and once on disk, you can use something like Ontrack Powercontrol to pull that data out and into a *.pst.

Obviously BE 2012 gives you the option to pull it directly into a *.pst...but you need either an Exchange 2007 server present, or 3rd party applications to crack open the *.edb that is duplicated to disk.

Read below on how to do it...
