is there a way to set the associate the media setting, to scratch media automatically, when i put in a new tape, so that i dont have to do it manually?

Then you have to manually do the association. I have previously put up this idea
but it received no support. Maybe you can vote for it.
If it s a brand-new tape then it is automatically put in the scratch media set when it is first inventoried. If it has been previously used by this copy of BE, then you would have to manually associate it with the scratch media set.
