Backup Exec 2012 job-centric versus server-centric
I have been researching upgrading from Backup Exec 2010 to 2012 and have seen a lot of grumbling about the change from job-centric to server-centric backups. I have over 120 servers that i have neatly broke out into 12 different jobs on 2010 according to encryption requirements, server type, and so forth. From my understanding, after the upgrade, I will have 1 job for each server. That is over 120 jobs to manage individually. I am worried that my tape library will explode with over 120 media moves, mounts, and dismounts in one night! This seems to be a step backwards for the product in terms of ease of use and manageability also. Can someone please give me some in-site and comments on their experience with 2012 and how it affected your daily work flow?
And please no links to videos/commercials on how "great" the new product is. I would like honest, real world answers before I decide to upgrade or start searching for a new product.
Very soon Backup Exec 2012 R2 will be released which will include bringing back the ability to backup multiple servers in one job. For the time being you can get more information and sign up for the Beta here: https://symbeta.symantec.com/callout/?callid=082D2918EC924087AA1F7FB1AE66B8E6
