Backup Exec B2D size limitations?
I am running Backup Exec 8.6 on a server and 11D on a different server (both running Windows 2003 server). I run backups on both of these server to external USB drives.
On the 8.6 server, I was just running out of space for backups, so I replaced the 2TB drive with a 3TB drive. On the 11D server, the backup drive failed (I believe it was also 2TB) so it was replaced with a 3TB drive as well.
Now on both of these servers, my backups will not run. They just get stuck in a "Queued" status until I manually cancel the job. Since both of these servers are experiencing the exact same issue after switching to 3TB drives, naturally I assumed that there is a drive size limitation when doing B2D backups and it appears this is confirmed, since I can still run a backup to my 2TB drive on the 8.6 server.
But I can't find any documentation to support this. And, although I know both of these versions of BE are old, I find it odd that this problem exists in both 8.6 and then 11D, which is 3 full versions newer.
I assume I can partition the drives to make it work, but I would prefer not to. Can someone confirm this drive size limitation? And if it's not strictly a drive size limit, is there something else I can do to remedy the situation?
Thanks.
Your BE versions are so old that the new disk may not be supported. I don't have the HCL for the BE 8.6. You can check the HCL for BE 11d
Maybe it is time to upgrade to the latest version of BE which is BE 2010 R3.
