Backup Exec install failed SQL server

Hi,

Im currently trying to install Symantec Backup exec onto a Server 2003 r2 32bit server and the install keeps failing at the SQL server stage.

there was a previous install of BE 2010 r2 on the server which was uninstalled then the server was rebooted. the install logs are as follows.

  • Try to first remove BKUPEXEC instance of SQL from the server which is from the previous installation.

Then try the installation of Backup Exec.

Also you can install a seperate instance of SQL using the SQLexpr.exe installation from the same Backup Exec DVD/ISO and then install Backup Exec on this new SQL instance.

    Thanks,

  • Hi there many thanks. I have already tried uninstalling SQL and rebooting the server and this still fails...

  • Its strange because even after the install fails SQL appears in Program files again ....... I am now trying to run the install from the SQLEXPR.exe on the disc

  • Tried TECH71988 and still the install fails

Looked at TECH56006 and the error code does not appear on there in the list supplied... error 126

Im looking into TECH124890 now.... initially the install failed with the following event log entry "Error 1923 Service SQL server could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient priveledges to install system services" however I dont understand this as I am logged in as the domain administrator.      there is then another entry after i tried to install again stating "A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the computer"

  • Looks like the install directly from the SQLEXPR.exe worked. Many thanks I can actually get to go home now!
