Backup Exec Reinstall

 Hi
I have had some problems with our server and I now need to reinstall BackupExec.  Trouble is - even though I've been through the registry a dozen times, and cleaned everything up, the installation aborts whilst setting up the SQL links, stating it is unable to log onto the server.
First, I am unsure as whether it is talking about the SQL server or the system, and secondly, how can I get round the problem to reinstall the software, please?

Thanks
Raymond
  • Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, and try and remove SQL and the existing install of BE with that?

    Reboot and try again!
  •  What version of BE?
If you performed an uninstall - make sure that you delete, or at least rename, the old source folder (By default,  it's Program Files\Backup Exec () - make sure this folder is renamed before attempting a reinstall)

  •  hi Raymond,
BE creates an SQL instance on the system you are installing it on.  You do have the option to use an SQL server itself but BE uses such little SQL resources it is smarter to just let BE create an SQL isntance on he server you are isntalling it on.  Check to see if you have something with SQL on the server you are installing it on.  You might have the sql instance still running and that is where is is failing.

  •  Thanks, Ronny - I've already tried with the old folder deleted, to no avail.

Hobbs - Also thanks.  I had stopped the SQL but it seems that the install routine starts SQL server right at the start of the install routine and then falls over when initialising SQL Server.
Any thoughts on how I get rid of the SQL server instance altogether, please?
