Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems

And neither will the Backup Exec Job Engine. Both are using the domain administrator's credentials. Both are set to Automatic startup. I've even got it set to restart the service if it fails the first time. I can manually start the service without any issues.
3 errors in the event log:
1. Service control manager Event ID: 7009 Description Timeout (30000 miliseconds) waiting for the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems service to connect.
2. Service Control Manager Event ID: 7000 The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems service failed to start due to the following error:The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
3. Service Control Manager Event ID: 7001 The Backup Exec Job Engine service depends on the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems service which failed to start because of the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

So why isn't the The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems starting correctly?
  • I figured out what the issue was - we were having a DNS /AD problem.
But I'm not sure what Outlook would have had to do with thtat.??

    Thanks for everyone's ideas.
  • Make sure the remote agent is under local system account. Also make sure you are not using port 10000 for any other program as remote agent uses port 10000 and if it is in use remote agent will not able to start it.
use process explorer to find which program is using port 10000 if it is in use.
  • RahulG - we don't have AlloyInventoryServer installed. But thanks.

sazz - I've changed it to a local system account and rebooted and that didn't get it working. How can I tell if I am using port 10000 for anything?

  • I made it a local system account and rebooted and that didn't fix it.

  • Nothing using port 10000 upon reboot. Once I started the remote agent service then I reran netstat -a and then port 10000 was in use.
  • Also make sure outlook is set as default mail client
Open IE ---tools--Option-programs---check for default mail client
