Backup exec report about available backups

Hello,

I'm trying to find a way to have a clear view of the available backups still stored on my medias. Currently, when I check the history, all jobs are displayed, even the ones that have been deleted from the storage location and are therefore no longer usable.

I then have to perform a fake restore, just to be able to see what is my actual oldest backup available.

I've tried to run one of the reports already created by Symantec ("Backup Sets by Media Set"), but it takes a huge amount of time and I never get the report anyway, only a timeout error message.

Is there a simple way to see what are the oldest available backup for every job in Backup Exec ?

    Hi,

     

    Other than performing a test restore and using a BE report, you might want to look at a 3rd part application for reporting. BE's reporting is poor at the best of times.

    I'd be glad to use the default report tool included in backup exec, but I currently have more than a hundred terabyte stored, and it seems that the report tool analyses every piece of data and takes a long time for it.

    When I create a fake restore, I know it's only taking the details about one job (I'm working on approximately 50 jobs), but the list of available data is almost displayed instantly, so I was wondering if I could get the same data in a custom report, without having to analyze every single data stored in my SAN. It's like the restore tool is looking in a list/database already created instead of analyzing the entire thing every time.

    I'm not sure if this is clear.

    (I'll check the 3rd part software anyway, I've seen you talking in another thread about Solarwinds Backup Profiler aka Storage Manager, that may be what I'm looking for.)
