Backup Exec SAN Shared Storage Option

Does the SAN Shared Storage Option allow you to backup a SAN or just allows Backup Exec to share a database on a SAN?
  • SAN Shared Storage Option (SSO) allows you to share backup devices (tape drives / libraries / backup to disk folders) among media servers that are connected to the SAN.

If you only have one media server then you do NOT need SSO to use a device attached to a SAN.  You only need that license if you plan to share it between media servers.

  • ...and to use the speed of that SAN too. Used it before, and cut my back times by more than 50%.
  • Yes, it`s good option. But because of lots of data for backup we first copy all data to VTL by Starwind iSCSI, and then, once per week, copy it to automatic tape loader.
