Customer who currenlty installed Backup Exec 2010 would like to run the Backup Exec 2010 R2. As per update, BUE 2010 R2 will overwrite the existing version ( BUE 2010 ).
What if customer is running Backup Exec 2010 trialware version, should it be uninstalled or not?

No need to uninstall, just install R2 over the top. The "trialware" download and the "full" download are the same product - the full version without license keys is the trialware version, and the trialware version with license keys is the full version!
FYI Your trial expiry date is likely to be based on when you install the first version - don't expect this upgrade to extend your trial
Hywel is right. No need to uninstall the trialware for BUE since the full version of BUE R2 will overwrite it. Trialware software and the full version downloaded in fileconnect is the same.
The customer needs to download the full version for BUE R2 in fileconnect and use the same license key for 2010.
Customer's issue:
"currently we've installed Backup Exec 2010 on a Windows Server 2008 Cluster with 2 Nodes. We've extended the evaluation period with the EvalExtender-Tool and now it has expired. Now we've heard about BE 2010 R2 and wan't to test the new features on these Servers. Do we need to remove BE 2010 and install BE 2010 R2 or can we upgrade? Or is it impossible?"
Answer:
the trial period won’t be renewed with an upgrade of the product. You would need to uninstall BE 2010 and install BE 2010 R2 from scratch (however, you could save Data and Catalog folders under C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec, if you would like to save job data).

I don't know where Backup Exec stores the information about when its trial should end. I've seen plenty of software where doing that still gives you the original trial expiry date. You could give it a try though.
If it doesn't work, it might be worth called Symantec Sales - I'm sure they've seen this before, and would have a way of further extending the trial.
