Backup fileserver directly via SAS
Hi all,
Firstly my setup is as follows:
- One external tape library with 2 SAS LTO5 tape drives.
- One SAS tape drive is connected to backup server via SAS cable
- The other SAS tape drive is connected to fileserver via SAS cable.
- Both servers are connected to 2Gbps Ethernet network.
- Backup exec is installed on the backup server, backup exec agent is installed on fileserver.
- I have installed the additional tape drive license option on the backup server.
What I need to know is whether it is possible to use the backup server to control the backup of fileserver i.e control the scheduling of backups etc BUT have the fileserver backup agent write the backup to the tape drive directly via the connected SAS cable rather than transferring all the data over the network to the backup server and writing it to tape from there.
Thanks in advance
Simon
No, this will never work.
IF it will work, you need to have Backup Exec (fulll version) installed on the fileserver.
But, I am not sure if you can share a library via SAS !
(Maybe you need the SSO, san shared storage option for this, but I suggest to try first).
