Backup server reboots automatically

Trying to backup vm servers that have Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise installed on them.  When I start the backup job, it looks to be running ok but after 30-50 minutes into the job, the backup server using Backup Exec 2010 R3 and Windows 2003 Standard SP2 reboots automatically.  Checked the Windows event log and not seeing any help for this and no alerts in the Backup Exec.  I have not noticed the automatic rebooting of the server that runs backup exec when I try to backup the servers running Windows 2003.  Is this an issue with Backup Exec 2010 R3 trying to backup Windows 2008 R2 machine?

  • Hi,

No, shouldn't be. Win2K8 R2 is supported and I've never had an issue with servers rebooting like this.

Check for any hardware issues on the media server itself, especially through the server's diagnostic utility if it is a branded server like HP, Dell etc.

Also make sure that Windows Server 2003 is updated with any additional patches, and that the firmware on the server itself is current.

    Thanks!

  • No schedule reboots setup on the machine used as the backup server.  The reboots only appear to be occurring when a backup is taking place.  This occurs when I do disk to disk and disk to tape backups.  Really odd.  Never seen or heard of this occurring.

  • Hi

    I agree with CraigV.

    Check your Server-Hardware.

Perhaps it is a overheating or anything else, while load occours on the Server.

Most Servers like HP will perfom a really fast shutdown or reboot of the Server if there is a failiure on the hardware. If this happens no event log entrys are written if the management Software is not completely installed.
