Backup sets expiration.

I have the question.
If I have a Job:
 - with 1 week expiration for full backup. doing every 1 week.
 - and with 1 week expitation for incremental backup. doing every 1 day.
After 1 week full backup set is expired, but incremental sets expired later then full set.
Full backup set don't delete before all incremental sets is expired.
And full backup set stay on storage 1 week(expiration of full set) + 1 week(expiration of latest incremental set).
How can I do, BE move full backup set after week with incremental sets, even incremental sets isn't expired yet?

And question about "Storage" settings in Backup Exec Settings: "protect allocated and imported media".
This settings refer to  tape media only?
Can I do, that all expired sets stay in storage, until this storage isn't full and after storage is full, oldest backup sets will be deleted?

  • The entire backup chain (full + incr) is only deleted after the entire chain has expired and a new backup chain has started.  Read my article below

No.  The expired chain will be deleted during the next grooming cycle.

  • Full backup sets will expire when the dependent backup sets (incremental backup sets) expire.

The Storage settings applies to tape media only.

  • And if I do full backup for 1 week expiration, and incremental for 1 day expiration,
incremental expired will delete after 1 day, even full backup is not expired yet?

  • Yes.  Provided you do not run another incremental job after the first incremental job.
