Backupexec configs

Hi all,

I have a problem with upgrade of backupexec.

I had a windows2003 server with backupexec 10.1 and make a new server with windows 2008 R2 x64, on this I installed backupexec 12.5.

Is there any way to restore configurations of my old backupexec as like policies, templates and selection lists?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

You're already in trouble with your new server. BE 12.5 is NOT supported as a media server on Windows Server 2008 R2. So, if it's currently working, you will run into issues. You have to migrate to BE 2010 R3 which is the latest version of BE in order for the new server to run the application properly.

That said, you could do a multistep upgrade to BE 2010 R3 on your current server running BE 10.1. Once you're at BE 2010 R3 level, it becomes a lot easier to move across to the new server.

the link below details how to do the multi-step upgrade from BE 10.1 to BE 2010 R3:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74415

Once done, follow the TN below to move to the new server:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH67768

ALWAYS grab a copy of the Data/Catalogs folders before running the upgrade...

    Thanks!

  • Not possible due to different version of BE.

Copy Media server configuration works for the same version of Backup Exec. Other option is

to copy entire BEDB which contains jobs, policies, media sets and all other settings but even this will

not help as 10.1 BEDB will not work with BE 12.5.

Note: BE12.5 as a media server on Win 2008R2 is not supported by Symantec.

  • As the others have said, you cannot run a v10d meda server on W2K8 R2

Best you can do is migrate your 10d into v11,  then use BEMIG to import that BEDB into a 2010R2 or newer media server
