Hi, we use Backup Exec 11d, backing up a WIN XP server to a USB drive. We do a weekly full back-up and 6X a week do an append. The full back-up should overwrite the media, but is not and is now failing with a disk full error. The nightly partial back-up is set to append/overwrite. Could these in some way be in conflict? I appreciate any help.
Are you using the default Media Set 1 or did you create your own?
From Tools\Options\Media Management check that
overwrite Protection is set to either Partial or Full, and that the option to "Use overwriteable media in target media set before scractch media" is selected
is the weekly FULL defined as Overwrite" do the INCR append to the same media set as the FULLs?

The incrementals write to the same media. All are set to append until overwrite is needed.
Media Management is set so that there is no overwrite protection level and "to overwrite the scratch media before overwriting the recyclable media contained in the targeted media set."
I think I may have found a missed setting in the job itself where overwrite protection is on. I will try again and see...

This is your problem. In a tape environment, this means "use a scratch tape even if an overwriteable tape is also available"
In a disk environment this means "create a new BKF file if there is space available, even if there is an overwriteable BKF file also available"
I also HIGHLY recomment a Global Overwrite setting of either FULL or PARTIAL. NONE can lead to all kinds of interesting (read undesirable) results
