BE2015-Tape goes offline

Hi all,

I got a fresh BE2015 installation on a W2012R2.The first backupjob to a LTO6 drive finished correctly.

Since then, every further job is being canceled because of a storage or mount  error. The Tape goes offline.

This happens even with new tapes.

There is a hint to look in support DB V-275-1137, but I can´t find anything helpful. --> "no results found"

Any help is welcome.....

  • ...and the driver?

Otherwise consider removing the tape drive from within BE itself and disconnect from the server. Restart the server and make sure that neither Device Manager nor BE see the drive, and shut the server down.

Reconnect the drive and start it up and check if you can run a job within BE again.

  • Hi,

This isn't attached to a VM, correct? If so this is an unsupported configuration and you'd need to install BE and the library on a physical server.

If it isn't, then stop the BE services and run the tape manufacturer's diagnostic utility against it to rule out hardware issues.

    Thanks!

  • Thx for your fast reply!

    No it´s not a VM, it´s a physical environment.

I stopped all BE services and run the HP Library & Tape Tools.

    -Device Performance Test was successful

    -Drive Assesment Test was successful

    -Media Assesment Test was successful

  • ...just a normal tape drive or an autoloader/library? If the latter, do the robotics show up in Device Manager as Unknown medium changer?

  • a normal LTO6 drive

Device Manager shows up as: HP LTO Ultrium-6 drive

  • What error message is logged in BE ?

Check the adamm.log and the event viewer as well for any helpful messages.

  • Driver info from Device Manager:

    Hewlett Packard

    08.07.2013

    1.0.7.2

What do you mean with "DM nor BE see the drive"? Deinstall Tape from DeviceManger?

  • Well basically just check and make sure that DM doesn't show the drive and neither does BE.

  • okay, after removing tape in BE and from DM and a restart, BE is now doing the missed backupjob....I will test and give feedback
