BUE 2012 Replication

Hi guys,

I have a two sites.

Backup happens at Site A. I want to replicate this backup to Site B via an internet link. And have Site B act as a DR site and come up should Site A crash.

My question is, using BUE 2012, can I achieve this? How?

  • You can use optimised dedup.  You need a media server with the dedup option on both ends and a CASO licence.  You do your backup to the dedup folder on one end and then duplicate that backup to the dedup folder on the other end.

  • Wangui,

One problem that I've just discovered with this type of config is the lack of replicated catalog information.

I have an onsite server running CASO and dedupe, and an offsite MMS with dedupe.

Data duplicated from the CAS server to the MMS server doesn't include the catalog data, so in the event that my CAS fails (from fire, theft, etc) and I need to do some major restores I'll need to catalog all my media first.

I'm really disappointed that Symantec sells the dedupe option as "dedupe and replication" and then fails to provide a way to replicate catalog data from a CAS to a MMS...
