Cannot See Exchange 2010 Mailboxes in Backup Selections

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2.  Backup Exec 2010.

I just installed Exchange Server 2010 on a virtual server on a virtual server.  This server has been backing up fine for a month now.  I have all agents installed (including virtual server and Exchange) and active. The Exchange Server has multiple mailboxes, but none of them show under my job selections.  Moreover, last night I ran the back and no mailboxes show up under the restore selections for last night's job.  All I see is:

ExchangeOAB

Microsoft Information Store

Under the ExchangeOAB folder I see a cryptic folder (lots of numbers in the name) under which there are many cryptic files (with lots of numbers in their names.

What do I need to do to get the granualr backup I checked in the Exchange Server backup settings?  Thanks for the help.

  • Do you have the Exchange 2010 Management Tools installed on your Backup Exec server ?

  • Backup Exec 2010 is installed on my Windows 2008 R2 host (GNHost).  Exchange 2010 is installed on a virtual (GNExchange) hosted by the host GNHost.  The Host DOES NOT have the Exchange 2010 Management Tools installed.  Do I need to do that?  How do I do that?

  • Yes, Exchange 2010 Management Tools is a requirement, even as a unique mailbox for the Backup Exec service account.

The Exchange 2010 Management Tools can be installed from the Exchange 2010 DVD. (install tools only)

  • And the tools need to be installed on the host (where the Backup Exec 2010 software is installed) and not on the virtual server where the Exchange Server 2010 software is installed?
