Catalog Updating

Hi All,

Please could someone help. Recently we are having issues with backups that are overrunning. The issue is with cataloging, the job appears to be updating. In Job Status - it states "Updating Catalogs". It stays like this for ever and a day, we have to cancel the job and stop start all services.

The job we are running is an exchange server which has GRT. Does anyone know a way to speed up this process, or does anyone know a command that would allow me to see if the update is actually running, and the job has not "Hung".

Any information would be greatly received.

Regards.

  • Hi

Thanks both for the information provided. I am sure to bookmark it if we get further problems.

The issue seems to have corrected itself...i.e. it finished successfully updating the catalogs after around 5 hours.

    Regards.

  • You can try delaying the catalog process.

  • Hi

I presume you are on BE2010 R3 version with sp2 and all updates, what version of exchange is this and the backup are going to disk or dedup or Nas or tape.

Please check the link too below

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Thanks both for your prompr responses.

1st response - how do I delay the catalog process. What is the consequence of this, it will have to update the catalog/register at some point. So I am not sure if this is an option.

2nd response - All your presumptions are correct, and Exchange version 6.5.xxx. All backups are to disk.

    Hope this information helps.

    Regards.
