Catalogs and catstore folder

Our BE 2010 R3 server's catalog partition filled up and was wondering what exactly is the catstore folder?  I read in a few different posts that it's files generated during reboot and it's currently taking up over 27GB and had files that were from early 2011.  Our catalog truncate policy is set to 3 weeks...

So a few questions:

1. Is it safe to manually delete files in the the catstore folder?
2. What is this folder for?

Thanks for your time.

  • Hi

I think someone would have made this customized folder in it but when you create a new catalog folder you will not see this folder called catstore so yes if it is old delete it

    Thanks

  • Hi

What is the location of the folder that you are referring to? Also what is the name of the folder?

Because there is no folder in Backup Exec called as "Catstore"?

Also what is the type (extension) of the file that is generated and what is the size of the file generated?

Additionally fh and .xml files are nothing but the catalogs. Whenever you run any backup job these files are generated in the catalogs folder. So no matter the job is success or failure the catalogs will be  generated for the data that is being backed up on the media.

So about last question yes you can delete the very older catalog file like one in year 2010 manually too if you don't require it

    Thanks

  • The path is E:\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs\BE2010\catstore
and the files look something like this:

    {4D8C9A64-8A83-4DCB-BCB8-18EBEB957BFB}_3.fh_imgFile0

    {4D8C9A64-8A83-4DCB-BCB8-18EBEB957BFB}_3.fh_imgStrings0
    {4D8C9A64-8A83-4DCB-BCB8-18EBEB957BFB}_3.fh_tmpSparseMatrix0
    {4D8C9A64-8A83-4DCB-BCB8-18EBEB957BFB}_3.fh_tmpSparseMatrix0_count
    {4D8C9A64-8A83-4DCB-BCB8-18EBEB957BFB}_3.fh_tmpSparseMatrix0_hardlink
