Central Administration Server shows false "No Communication" status for a media server (BUE 2010)

An odd glitch has recently occurred on our central admin server for Backup Exec 2010.  This server manages three media servers.  One of the media servers is showing a red X and the status of "no communication".

This, however, seems to be a false status.  The MMS in question is up and running.  It is performing backup jobs and recently-updated media created by the MMS shows up on the Media tab on the CAS.  Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly when this problem happened (sometime within the last three days I'm pretty sure).

I can ping from the MMS to the CAS.  I can ping from the CAS to the MMS.  I can use the telnet diagnostic (telnet <servername> 10000) and get the wingdings font confirmation that shows the two are communicating.  I've used the telnet test going both from the CAS to the MMS and from the MMS to the CAS, and both return wingdings.  I've also restarted all the BUE services on the MMS.  However, I just cannot get the MMS listed normally on the Media Servers tab on the CAS.

Searches have so far turned up nothing relevant.  Has anyone here encountered this issue before, and have a recommendation on fixing it?

  • Have you tried to from the MMS Interface Tools - Options - Rejoin the MMS to the CAS...Also, what happens if you try to change the status of the MMS from the CAS server from the properties tab of the affected MMS..

  • Alright, this is fixed now.  Somehow the MMS had dropped off of the CAS as far as being a managed server.  No idea how it happened, but I reran the "connect to administration server" (or whatever the option is called) and it is now showing up as it should.

    Thanks for the reply.
