Citrix Xenapp Backup and Restore
Does anyone know of a best practice guide for how to backup and restore Citrix Xenapp (Web Interface, Licensing, Data Collector, Datastore Database and CAG)?
Thanks

There is no BE agent for Citrix Xenapp. The only way to backup and restore this application would be to do ordinary file backup and restores. Make sure that you turn on AOF so that any opened files would be backed up.
Citrix XenApp servers are just Windows servers, install the BE Remote Agent and backup these server(s).
Licensing is an additional component, make sure to backup your licese file(s) somewhere, but in case of emergency you can recreate them from the Citrix licensing portal. Citrix will run some time (think 30days) when it lozes the license.
Data Collector are just normal XenApp servers, they maintain the load/applications in memory, but the data is also stored in the Citrix database.
Datastore Database, make sure to backup this, with the appropriate agent (SQL or Oracle).
CAG, is an appliance, you cannnot install a BE agent. Make sure to (manualy) create a backup of the configuration. Normaly if it runs fine you don't modify a lot on it.
Thanks for the feedback.
I thougth you could setup windows servers to run as CAGs?
Yes, but then it will be a Citrix Secure Gateway, but that product is end of life and will not be updated anymore.
Ok cool, so there it is pretty straight forward backing and restoring Citrix? Do you know what databases Citrix can be installed on, I think it is only Oracle, SQL now?
Yes, backup / restore is pretty straight forward.
Databases can be SQL / Oracle and some rarely used IBM DB.
One more query on this.
Supposedly you can use Access for the Datastore database, although not sure if this is the case in 6.0 and 6.5 versions of Xenapp?
I found documentation saying it could be done in versions 5.05 and before that Presenation Server 4.5 and earler.
Would anyone know if 6.0 and 6.5 ccan use access as well?
Thanks
