Confirmation needed: Could BE2010 "steal" a tape YET IN USE from a different media set than the target media set
- 1. Could a BE's job with it's own media set "A" could (when no more own/ scratch tapes/ unused tapes of another media set are available) "steal" an appendable tape from another media set YET IN USE BY another media set "B"/ job (HALF FULL tape)?
- 2. To which media set would this tape belong to afterwards? "A" and "B"?
Sorry, CraigV to bring this up again, but I need certainity on this.
If so, we have to check all our media if this happened in the past...
When you specify "append, otherwise overwrite" in your job, the job will look for an appendable tape in the targeted media set. If an appendable tape is not found in the TARGETED media set, then the job will look for an overwritable tape according to the rules in this document
How Backup Exec searches for overwritable media
It will then take an overwritable tape from another media set if it is needed.
If you specify just append in your job and the job cannot find an appendable tape in the targeted media set, then the job will fail.
Under no circumstances will a job append to a tape from a media set other than the targeted one. Hence a tape will NEVER belong to 2 media sets at the same time.
I would suggest that you do not use append until you have sorted out your OPP.
