Decrease Volume of Storage Disk

Hello,

I have a Storage Disk and I need to shrink the volume it resides on, I have not been able to find any documentation on this.

The process I intend to use is..

1) Stop all BE 2012 services.

2) Shrink Volume in Disk Management (Keeping an acceptable buffer for future backups and ensuring Low Disk space isn't breached before expiration and last backup is retained)

3) Start all BE 2012 Services.

My expectation is that once the services are restarted the Storage Disk will recalculate the Total Capacity and so forth automatically and not remove any existing backups. Can somoene please confirm this will be the case.

Thanks.

  • I would recommend disabling DLM temporarily before carrying out the above procedure. This KB can be used - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH215874.html

  • Rather than disabling DLM by modifying the registry and restarting the BE services, it might be easier to go to the properties of the disk storage and make it read-only

  • Yes. Your proposed procedure should work.
