Dedupe Backup Behaviour Clarification Needed...
Hi Guys,
- Running BE 2010 R3 with all the latest hotfixes.
- Single Dedupe Store called "Colo Dedupe"
- Using AVVI agents and running weekly fulls then diff dailies using policies.
- GRT enabled to allow induvidual file restore from VMs
- GRT NOT enabled for sql, exchange, AD.
Question 1:
Most of my media in the dedupe store is in the IMG format with only a few in the OST format.
Is it true that when using GRT it will create IMG files but when not using GRT it will u create the OST format?
The OSTs I have are located in the dedupe store and media is full. Just wondering why both are there.

Question 2:
When looking at the Job History there is two devices names.
Colo Dedupe:1 and Colo Dedupe:2
Is this normal?
Thanks guys!
Question 1: That is correct - GRT Backups will show up with IMG Media. However this is only the GRT part of the Backup. The Data which gets backed up apart from GRT is written to the OST Media.
Example: You Create a AVVI Backup from your Exchange Server. You will get an IMG Media which does hold the Exchange data and the other File data (File System C:\ etc.) gets written to the OST.
Question 2: That is because you configured your deduplication folder to accept multiple simultaneous backups. Each stream is identified by appending ":#" to the Device name. So if you'd allow 4 streams you would end up with Device names "Colo Dedupe:1-4"
