Delete BackupSets to finish running Full Backup

Hi,

I am running BEX2012, W2008R2 and have a full backup B2D running, but I have run out of space on my backup array.  As suggested by the error message, I have deleted backup sets to free up some space, but they have not deleted the corresponding .bkf files from my backup array disk.  Can I pause the running Full backup job by selecting "hold" for that running job, manually delete the cooresponding .bkf files, and then do an "Inventory" (or is it "Inventory/Catalog") in order for BEX to see free space on the drive?  Then could I "un-hold" the running Full backup job so it will finish?  If this isn't the correct approach, what is please??

    No. There is no way to hold a job. If you have deleted the backup sets from the console you can delete the corresponding .bkf files. You might need to do an inventory to get BE to sense the freed space. Catalog is not necessary

    Tnx....how do I do an inventory while the full backup job is active and waiting for more space?  Can I pause/hold it and have the inventory job take precedence, complete the inventory and un-pause/un-hold the running Full backup job?  

    Also, I throught it was needed to stop the BE services in order to manually delete the .bkf files.  Is this not needed?

    Sorry, but i previously missed your first sentence in your previous response where you stated "There is no way to hold a job".  My follow up questions still apply.  

    Can I change the inventory job precedence, so that it doesn't have to wait for the Full backup to finish first, via GUI interface or run BEMCLI from a Powershell console in order to complete the inventory so that the running Full backup job?  

    Also, I throught it was needed to stop the BE services in order to manually delete the .bkf files.  Is this not needed?

    You don't have to force precedence for the inventory job.  You got to make sure that the number of concurrent jobs property of the disk storage is set for more than 1, then the inventory job will run.  Sometimes BE is smart enough to detect the increase in disk space automatically, so an inventory is not needed.

    No.  You don't need to stop the BE services before deleting the .bkf files.  However you must be sure that the backup sets are not in the BE console.  Otherwise, deleting the .bkf files (which is not recommended) will leave them orphaned.

    Tnx for the reply!  I did not know of a setting the allow for more than one concurrent jobs.  It would be much appreciated if you could tell me where I can increase the number of concurrent jobs for the drive.  

    I'd rather not delete the .bkf files maually but they don't seem to get deleted during the process when I delete the cooresponding backup sets from the BE console.  I think this was a bug that might have been softed out with SP4, but unfortunately SP4 has not run properly on my configuration.  That is another mystery.

    It is part of the disk storage properties. Click on the disk storage in the Storage tab and then click on properties
