Drivers Relating To Tapeinst.exe

I am new to Backup Exec and I have been having a lot of SCSI related errors and failures of writing to disks. I have replaced a couple of my LTO3 drives from my tape libraries but the problems still arise. Pending the problem is not related to the SCSI bus itself I am not sure there is much else I can do.

That being said, I was wondering, why install the Symantec Tape Drivers if the tape drives are already recognized by Backup Exec and Windows? Do I gain more functionality by using the Symantec Drivers over the standard Windows provided drivers? Detailed explanations are welcome.

Thanks in advance.
  • The driver downloads from Symantec are drivers that have been tested in the lab by Symantec, and thus should give you the fewest problems

If NTBackup can see and access a drive/library (when all BackupExec services are shut down), then Backup Exec should be able to use the same drivers (OEM drivers say)
