duplicate issue

I'm getting an issue. Backup to QNAP NAS is good, QNAP to USB fails. This happens on any USB drive.

Duplicate- DATA An unknown error occurred on device "Deduplication Storage Folder on QNAP:2".
V-79-57344-33991 - A backup storage read/write error has occurred.

If the storage is tape based, this is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive.  Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again.  If the problem persists, try a different tape.  You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.

If the storage is disk based, check that the storage subsystem is functioning properly.  Review any system logs or vendor specific logs associated with the storage to help determine the source of the problem.  You may also want to check any vendor specific documentation for troubleshooting recommendations.

  • a) Where have you connected the USB drive to (I hope it is the media server and NOT the back of the QNAP)

    b) Is the USB disk formatted with NTFS or one of the extended FAT32 variants?

    c) If you do a test backup directly to the USB disk of similar data, does it work?

  • a) Connected to the back of the QNAP. We believe that it should be faster since it is connected directly to it.

    b) All drives are NTFS.

    c) Tests with similar data fail the same way.

  • It is strange though that 8 other backups run without a problem. This is the only one that give us problems.

  • Recreated the backup job and it worked.
