enable to backup EMC NAS vnxe3100

Hi All,

I have a BACKUP EXEC 12 on a old WS 2008 where I'm backuping without problem our EMC NAS VNXe3100 using NDMP.

Now I have got a new server WS12R2 where I installed BACKUP EXEC 15 to try if all works to make migration but I'M not able to backup our EMC NAS VNXe3100 using NDMP or also CIFS. My server is updated, my BCK EXEC 15 is updated and I also installed last firmware avalable for VNXE3100 (2.4.4.22283).

From network I'm able to see all shared folder.

My error are:

Errore finale: 0xe000fefd - La connessione di rete tra il server Backup Exec e Agent for Windows Φ stata interrotta

(Translation: Network connection between Backup Exec Server and Agent for Windows was interrupted)

Errore finale: 0xe000fe28 - Impossibile stabilire una connessione di rete al server. Categoria errore finale: Errori di processo

(Translation: Enable make a network connection to server)

Errore finale: 0xe000130b - L'operazione Φ stata interrotta nel server NDMP. Per ulteriori informazioni, vedere il registro NDMP.
(Translation: Operation was interrupted on NDMP server. For further informations, see NDMP registry)

Thanks a lot to everybody.

Regards.

Lorenzo

  • The 0xe000fefd error is almost certainly because you are trying to do a CIFS backup with NDMP ability still enabled in the operating system of the VNC. If NDMP is enabled then Backup Exec believes a remote agent is installed and so CIFS backups will fail.

When you enable the NDMP Option (in the storage tab) then you need the NDMP Ability enabled (so cannot do CIFS share backups)

As such if you are trying to use the NDMP option did you add the VNC into the storage section of BE 15 as an NDMP device?

    -----

On top of the above if you configure NDMP and then decide to swap back to CIFS you have to delete the object representing the VNC storage that was created in the servers list of the Backup and Restore section and then recreate it as a file server object. I suspect the same is also true if you tried CIFS and then tried to switch back to NDMP Option. (i.e delete the object and then go to storage and let the act of creating the NDMP storage also create the correct object)

  • Hi Colin,

If I enable NDMP on NAS I connect as NDMP Storage with ndmp user (icon is grey PC with a blu cross) but backup doesn't work.

If I disable NDMP on NAS I connect as File Server with domain user (icon is grey PC with a little Microsoft Window) but backup doesn't work.

You wrote "When you enable the NDMP Option (in the storage tab) then you need the NDMP Ability enabled", what do you means with "then you need the NDMP Ability enabled"?

    Thanks,

  • I mean the NDMP Protocol needs to respond on port 10000, which on a NetApp would mean the NDMP Daemon muts be configured and enabled, as I was not sure if a VNX uses the same terminology I used the word Ability as a catch all statement

  • OK, I understand. Yes, NDMP Protocol is configured on port 10000.

I've made this morning some other tests. I've installed backup exec on a virtual machine that I can move in a hyperv cluster through different physical servers. Cluster is based on a HP C7000 Blade and a Vertex Dell Blade. If I move VM to HP I can backup NAS VNXe data without problems, but if I move it on a DELL there are issues that you know.

I need to use DELL on physical blade because is there where I have also connected a tape library.

I've already asked to my vendor.

    Thanks.
