Error when selecting SQL Server in Backup Exec selection list

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem whereby I can't select or expand the SQL Server node on a server that has the Remote Agent for Windows Server installed but I can select and expand any of the local drives or folders, so I know the agent is working correctly.

The error I get is 'An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of Microsoft SQL Server. A network connection to the server could not be established".

I can Telnet to the agent as described in http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH84759 and it connects fine.

What can I do to troubleshoot or fix this? I can select SQL servers on other machines that have the agent installed, just not this server.

Please help

Appreciated

Jon

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your links.

I looked through each one and tried them but none of them have resolved the issue. IPv6 is enabled on both media server and the server hosting the SQL databases. I have also tried using a user-defined selection with the IP address and it's the same: I can browse the hard drives, but not connect to or expand the SQL server nodes.

We are using BE 2010 R3. I should mention that the SQL Server version is SQL Server 2012. I just realised that BE 2010R3 isn't compatible with SQL Server 2012! Great.

    This case can be closed.
