Event 1023 Windows cannot load the extensible counter DLL Backup Exec.

I am getting the following events from our newly build server 2012 r2 server with BE 15. I am not sure what is causing this issue, but it appears to be related to BE and performance counters.

  • ...very, VERY old post but check it out anyway and see if this is still relevant with your version:

    THanks!

  • Hello Craig,

In that article the user indicated that he was not able to located the following file, "MSVCR71.DLL" and I was not able to locate it either; however, I dont even know if that file was suppose to be installed with BE 15.

In addition, as of today I got another message:

  • I would suggest that you log a support case with Symantec for them to take a look at the problem. You might want to try re-installing BE 15 first.  Backup the Data and Catalog directories under the BE installation directory before re-installing.

  • Do ensure full permissions to System, Administrators, All Application Packages are provided on the following registry key :-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Backup Exec\Performance

You may have to provide permissions for other keys for which the events occur. (For egs, the very first event which you posted applies to BITS services, i.e. a non BE file/service and possibly due to lack of permissions)

Secondly, you could also try to reload the library using this KB - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc774913%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
