Exchange backup: The specified Logon Account credentials do not have the necessary Powershell permissions that are needed to complete the job

Sometimes when the exchange backup jobs runs over night i get the message below:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000038a - The specified Logon Account credentials do not have the necessary Powershell permissions that are needed to complete the job. Review the credentials to ensure that it has the Exchange Organization Administrator role and sufficient rights.
Final error category: Resource Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-906

If I re-run the job in the morning by right clicking in the job history and selecting "retry job now", it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.  On the 3rd attempt today, the backup job completed without error.  How can I rectify this?

We are using Backup Exec 2010 R3.  The backup exec 2010 R3 is installed on the same server as exchange.

  • Hi,

If this is Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 you need the management console installed on your backup server.

You also need to make sure you have the rights below to back up Exchange (certainly for 2010):

If you do have the necessary rights and console in place, create a new standalone job and select the Information Store. Schedule this to run and see if it runs correctly. If it does, this probably shows some sort of corruption in the current selection list.

    Thanks!

  • Also Refer to the technote

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH140379 : Backup of Exchange server fails with an error V-79-57344-906 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "Microsoft Information Store". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

  • The management console is installed on the Exchange server.  Backup Exec must have the rights because it works sometimes, others it does not.  For example, it failed last night and but worked all the previous nights this week - same job.  I've retried the failed job today, and only the 4th attempt succeeded.  EAch failure was the same reason as mentioned in the post above

  • Exchange is installed on the same server as backup exec.  Ive checked the symantec backup exec remote agent and its showing the servers name already.

  • Resolver01,

I'm afraid I've got the same problem which occurred on the very same day you first submitted your post.

I take it you tried the server reboot.

If you try and create a new backup job, is the information store available as a resource to backup? On mine it's disappeared, so I needed to check if it was a licensing issue - should n't be as was installed January.

I've also tried creating a brand new account - still no luck. Will keep trying and let you know what I did if i get a resolution.

    Good luck

  • Try to put your backup account to Exchange Organization Administrators in AD.

  • VERY old post...no need to reopen it, and this was mentioned in the TN that was supplied.
