Exchange item restore taking a very long time
Hi,
I am running Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R2 to backup our Exchange 2007 databases using GRT.
I am trying to restore an individual contact item from a backed up mailbox. I can drill down to the item no problem under the restore selection list but the restore job is still running 24 hours later!
I understand that it needs to restore the entire information store temporarily to restore individual items using GRT. Should it take this long?
It seemed to start at a reasonable speed but has now dropped down to 52.00 MB/min and the byte count is no longer increasing - it's stuck at 79GB and the job status reads 'Staging'.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Colin.
Hi,
when doing a restore from tape that was backed up using GRT, it stages to disk...always. You won't get around this unless you stage to disk manually.
For this to happen, it defaults the staging area to C:\Temp, and you need enough free disk space as your Information Store is big. For example: If your IS is 100GB in size, you need 100GB free.
Go to Tools --> Options --> Microsoft Exchange and change the locaiton to a drive with enough free disk space and try the restore again.
If it fails, consider staging to disk as per my article below:
