Exchange restores

Hi everyone

I have a really simple problem which i can't seem to fathum out!

Our daily full backups have been working fine and the other day i was able to select either the information store or individual mailbox items. However today all i get is the below picture, basically no option to select any Exchange items.

 

I've done an re-inventory of the backup drive, restarted all services, but to no avail

Can anyone suggest what i'm doing wrong, this is really odd!

                  Try creating a test mailbox, verify that youre able to send and receive mail to and from it. Then create a redirected restore for the items that your are attempting to restore and redirect them to the newly created mailbox. If successful you can attempt to do a "redirected" restore to the origional location. 

     

    Addtionally you can try running the origional restore job with Debugging enable on both the media and exchange servers and post the job and sgmon logs for review

    Hi keepsmiling, 

    can you post the last job log of the backup you are trying to restore?

    When was the last time you were able to restore successfully?

    Are you restoring from tape or disc?

    Make sure you have enough space available.

    What version of Exchange are you using?

    If Exchange 2007 or 2010 make sure you have the Exchange Management tools installed on the media server and that they are updated to the same level as the Exchange servers version.

    Try uninstalling and then repushing the agent.

    Can you see the Information Store to back it up? If not, remove the license for Exchange & re-add it!

    Hey keepsmiling

     Verify that the selected server is the exchange server otherwise you will not see the exchange restore selections. Additionally are you running a DAG if so be sure that you are highlighting the DAG prior to hitting the restore button

    Hi everyone

    Thanks for all your comments

    So this morning i thought i'd look again. Now the backup is currently backing up another server so i clicked on the restore of both the Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 servers and the option is there! WTF

    Looking on the restore lists, it only gives me the option to restore from the backup which is currently running. It doesn't give me options to restore from the last few days. The filter is set to show the last month so it's not that

    Just trying to learn this new Backup Exec and do feel that some of the changes complicate procedures!

    Can anyone help me further?

    If you don't have SP1a for BE 2012 installed, have you considered doing this as part of your troubleshooting process?

    Hi Craig

    I dont have SP1a installed so i have done that. I need to restart the server, however there are files on it that are being used, so i need to find the right time to restart it!

    I'll give you an update once i have done this

    Hi guys Here is my situation... I installed SP1a successfully and restarted the server. I can see the exchange options if i inventory and catalog the disk which has the data on it i require. It only shows the date of the tape i have cataloged (if i select Exchange) and no previous dates, is this by design? Bear in mind i can see previous backups if i just select normal files. So i'm testing restoring an item back into my mailbox and the job succeeds but nothing appears in my mailbox. It's an Exchange 2003 setup and the System account in BE has full permissions to my mailbox. I even get the message saying "Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers has restored one or more items to your mailbox. After verifying that all requested items have been restored, you can delete this message. For more information, contact your system administrator and refer to the job history for job " Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks Simon

    Just a quick note, i can restore individual mail items to an individual mailbox on our Exchange 2007 server fine
