Extra skipped files all of a sudden

Using Backup Exec 11d and usually the daily server back up alert shows 2 (or sometimes thik this is when there is an upodate to run) 3 skipped files. However the last 2 days running alert has shown 11 files being skipped which I cannot ver remeber happening (have been using for well over a year now).

 

Looking at the job log all the additional files are cookies of some description e.g

c:\documents and settings\administrator\cookies\administrator@207[1].txt     there are actually 6 files in that directory inlcuding the one listed

c:\documents and settings\vadmin\cookies\vadmin@atdmt    actually 3 files in this directory

 

I do know that on day 1 our McAfee anti virus update was a siginficant one and asked for a machine (ie. server) restart but we only did that on day 2 as has to be done out of hours. I had therefore thought the skipped files would not reappear when the back up was run the night after the restart but thery are still there. Is this something to be concerned about?

    Is your browser running during the time of the backup?  If not, then I don't think it is good news.  BE will only skip a file if it is in use.  A cookie should not be in use if the browser is not running.  The only time when this happens is a virus infection.

    Try deleting these cookies.  If you can't, then the machine is probably infected.

    I have run a scan on the areas of the machine where the cookies are apparently located and this comes back all clear.

     

    In terms of deleting the coookies how do I do that? ..

    for instance the one in  c:\documents and settings\administrator\cookies\administrator@207[1].txt...becaude I can go to c:\documents and settings\administrators but there is no further subfolder called 'cookies' even if I set to show hidden files

    These could be created as system folders which will not show even if you display hidden files.  You got to paste the entire path into Windows Explorer to access these folders.  I would suggest that you have a word with your anti-virus vendor regarding these files.
