Full_Differential and Incremental BE2012
Hi all,
I would like to duplicate my old backup schema that I inherited in BE 10d, but can't figure out how to do this in BE2012. I am using an LTO-4 tape drive only at the moment and generally can fit a full backup on 1 and 1/4 tapes, leaving 3/4 of the second tape free. I set that tape as appendable and do a differential every wed to that tape until it fills up. At that point I run the next full backup to new tapes to start the cycle over. Within this cycle I run incremental backups to a seperate tape between the original full and the following differentials until my next full backup when I erase it, add it to scratch, and reuse it.
Problem. In BE 2012, when I set up a full backup job and add a differential or incremental "add backup jobs by method", I can only pick one or the other. It throws an error message when I try to add both jobs to the same full backup job telling me I must delete one of them. I need both the differentials and incrementals to reference the same full backup job so I can't create them seperately.
I spoke to a tech support rep who thought it was possible, then seemed to test it while I was talking to them and responded "oh, you cant do that one with BE2012..hhmmm" and that this would be addressed in BE2012R2 coming out soon :-)
Ideas?....tnx
Tnx for the response....In the past, I have run restores and I don't recall the issue of only going back to the latest incremental unless i'm not understanding something. I was able to restore from each differential backup date and its cooresponding full backup job. Doing the incrementals was just to be able to restore an odd document during the period in between the latest differential backups.
