How deduplication replication and duplicate to tape
I have 2 backup exec server 2014 in different location and connected using private link (40mbps).
On main site, there is CAS with deduplication disk.
On second site, there is MMS with deduplication disk and tape library.
I try to create a backup job on CAS but cannot select tape as duplication destination.
It need to share library across server or not?
OK the CAS runs the initial job to it's own deduplication storage and the job to duplicate from the storage on the CAS to the shared deduplication storage on the MBE. However because the CAS cannot physically access the tape drive, the MBE has to run the second duplicate stage to get the data onto tape, hence why you would need the MBE to be responsible for that job.
So Job Stages ( would be )
- CAS server runs job to backup the initial data to it's own Dedupliation Storage Folder
- CAS server runs a duplicate job to copy the deduplciated data form its own storage to the shared deduplication storage on the MBE server (the CAS server can do this because the MBE storage is shared)
- MBE server then duplicates the copy of the backup that is now it its deduplication storage onto the atteched tape. (this job is still created in the console of the CAS server you just tell it to run on the MBE)
For the above to work the MBE MUST be designated as a Private Cloud server and its deduplication store MUST be shared to the CAS at the main site.
Note: we do normally recommend that the CAS is at the remote location with the attached drive and not the MBE but as long as the private cloud option is used it should be possible with the MBE remote.
