if backup size shrinks, do backup to disk folders shrink as well?

I have a Backup To Disk folder that I back up multiple servers to.  If I remove a server from my backup, thus shrinking my total backup size, can I expect the Backup To Disk folder to shrink at the next backup completion (it's set to overwrite)?  Or must something be done to free up that disk space taken by the media files?

Thanks!

  • Media will not be automatically deleted, it will become overwritable and than during the next overwrite

operation the overwritable media will be used for backups. To free up the disk space you will have to

delete the older bkf files. For better utilization of disk make the following changes.

    1) Click on Tools->Options->Media Management-> Select "use recyable media before using scratch

    media"

    2) Always configure disk backup to overwrite instead of appending.

  • Media becomes overwritable once the overwrite protection period ends. Other way to make the media

ovewritable is to drag n drop the media in the scratch media set.

  • Understood, but will unused media from the folder be deleted?

Say my backup is originally ~100GB, so the folder contains ~25 4GB files.  If my backup shrinks to 50GB, will unused media in that folder then be automatically deleted freeing up 50GB of disk space?  If not, what's the best way to free that space up?
