Install Backup Exec Media server on Clustered SQL DataBase Server
Hello
I am planning to install Backup Exec Madia Server into Clustered SQL Database Server using Microsoft Failover Cluster.
I would like to use Clustered SQL DataBase as Backup Exec database.
But, Symantec highly recommends using MSDE for Backup Exec Database as Backup Exec Admin Guide.
Should we avoid using Clustered SQL DataBase for Backup Exec Database?
Are there any problem if we use it ?
Please tell me your opinion.
Thanks,
Hi,
The agent allows you to back up SQL...you don't need an agent to install it at all. I think that is where the confusion is coming in!
In order to back up ANY SQL instance (SQL server/SQL Express) you will need the BE SQL agent.
So if you want to back up SQL on server 1 (stand-alone), you need 1 agent, and you will need another agent to back up the SQL instance on the cluster!
The last part of the query I am unsure about, but here goes...RAWS communicated with the media server which writes information out to the BEDB and catalogs.
You only need the amount of SQL licenses for SQL servers you intend backing up. Again...if you're backing up BOTH the servers in 1. & 2., you need 2 licenses. If you're only wanting to back up the SQL cluster, you need 1.
Thanks!
