Install error - server service is not running

BE 11 on Windows 2008 64 bit Install fails with above error BUT THE SERVICE IS RUNNING. What could I be missing?

11.x and Earlier

Server 2008 is not listed on the SCL so this is your issue. You need to go to BE 2010 R3 at a minimum (I wouldn't recommend BE 12/12.5 due to their age!) in order to get Windows Server 2008 supported.

This is BE 11. Isn't it newer than BE 2010?

Nope...BE 11, BE 12.0, BE 12.5, BE 2010 R1, BE 2010 R2, BE 2010 R3, BE 2012 <-- that is how far back BE 11d is.
