Inventory to Tape Library


Hello everybody, finally I can see my 2 robotic libraries. Now this is the topic.

1. I changed to "Unknow Media Changer" to the tape library in the Devices Manager.

2. I stopped all Symantec 's Services.

3. I restarted the Tape Library.

4. I started the Symantec ´s Services

5. I started theTape Library.


After all prior steps I did an inventory to the tape library and this was the output.



The showed numbers as "Incorrect function" are the cartridges that are full in the Tape Library....

    A LTO2 tape drive would not be able to write to a LTO3 tape.  You either upgrade your tape drive or buy LTO2 tapes.

    1) Make sure that your barcode labels conform to the HP specification.

    2) Your HP library has a Web interface.  You can use this interface and see whether all the slot information is o.k. or there is any errors.

    3) Enable barcode rules for your library

    pkh I enabled barcode for tape library in Backup Exec, after I performed an inventory and the output was that slots that are full in the tape library were showed as "Incompatible Media".

    Maybe it is 'cause barcode labels don't conform or compatible with HP specification...

    Where I can see barcode labels configuration in Backup Exec???

    It´s is a LTO2

    LTO2 tape or LTO2 tape drive??  What is your tape drive (LTO what)? and what LTO tapes are you using.

    HP barcode labels should have the barcode on the top part of the label and is in the format

    aaaaaaLb where a = any alphanumeric character and b = 1, 2, 3, 4, for LTO1, 2, 3, 4 respectively.

    Can you see the barcode information when you access the library via the Web interface?

    Tape drive: Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-2 drive.

    HP MSL2024 Ultrium 448 LTO.

    This is a view of Configuration->System of Web Interface of the library.

    Is this the information that you were talking about???

    Other things the slot that are full are unlabeled....

    How can I label the slot inside Tape Library without having to do from Backup Exec???

    Look at Operations --> Move Media.  If your barcode labels are correct, you should see something like this.

    You should not be doing any manual labeling of tapes if you are using barcode labels.  If your barcode labels are correct, the tapes would be labeled correctly.  You should post an image of how your barcode label looks like.
